Gatwick Airport Security
Security and safety remain Gatwick Airport's main priority. One of Gatwick's aims is to achieve the best Health & Safety performance. To date, BAA has received seven RoSPA Gold awards for their Health & Safety management system.
Gatwick Parking security tips
All of the car parks serving Gatwick Airport parking have security measures in place to protect and look after your vehicle while you are away. Many have 24 hour regular security patrols, some have CCTV and most have manned barriers. Also many of the car parks have high fences and some have guard dogs. When booking your Gatwick parking, look out for any security awards that a car park might hold, such as the ACPO Gold Award. This should give you that extra peace of mind when leaving your car when you travel abroad. Lastly, remember to lock up your car, turn off any inside lights you may have turned on, and turn off your headlights! You don't want to return to a flat battery, but if you do, many car park operators offer free jump starts as part of the parking package.

Luggage Security
As in all airports, at Gatwick you should never let your luggage leave your side. You should not let any strangers interfere with your hand luggage, and you should never accept any bags or extra luggage from strangers. The security officers at Gatwick Airport should ask you if your luggage has been packed yourself and if it has been left unattended at any time. They do this for a reason! It is advisable to pack any sharp objects, such as nail scissors, in your hold luggage, as the security scanners as you enter Gatwick's departure lounge will more than likely find them in your hand luggage and the staff will ask you to remove them. You will not be allowed to take sharp or dangerous items on the plane. When you approach the security area as you enter the departure lounge, it's also advisable that you empty your pockets of any metal items and put them in your hand luggage for scanning. The same goes for watches and mobile phones as they may cause the body scanner to alarm.
When boarding the aircraft, make sure you place your hand luggage under your seat or in the over head compartments. On some flights your luggage may be sprayed with an insecticide. This is just a security precaution. Please also note that depending on your destination, you may not be able to take certain food items with you, such as meat, cheese or dairy products. Customs may also stop you bringing these back from certain countries.
